Stories

Anthropologists have always written narratives — of fieldwork, of particular lives, of events that resisted the generalising pressure of analysis. The HAU Stories series makes deliberate room for this kind of writing. The works in this series are books in which the story itself carries the argument, and where a different form of attention — to contingency, to voice, to the shape of an encounter — produces knowledge that other formats foreclose. The series is not defined by genre so much as an unwillingness to sacrifice particularity to publishing conventions.
